Electric cars in Lebanon: a buyer's guide
More drivers in Lebanon are looking at electrified cars, but the term covers very different vehicles. This guide explains the main types, what Halal EV currently offers, and the questions worth asking before you commit.
Fully electric vs plug-in hybrid
A fully electric car (EV) runs only on its battery. There is no fuel tank, so every kilometre depends on charging — at home, at work or at a public charger.
A plug-in hybrid or range-extended car has a rechargeable battery for electric driving plus a petrol engine. You can charge it and drive on electricity for shorter trips, while the engine removes range worries on long journeys. It is not a fully electric car, and it still needs fuel.
Which suits you depends on where you can charge and how far you drive. If you can charge reliably and mostly drive around the city, a fully electric car can fit well. If charging is uncertain or you regularly drive long distances, a plug-in hybrid gives you a fallback.
Understanding claimed range figures
Range figures for these models are usually quoted on the Chinese CLTC test cycle, or as a combined figure for plug-in hybrids. These are laboratory results. Real-world range is typically lower and depends on speed, climate, air conditioning, load and terrain — Lebanon's mountain roads make a noticeable difference.
The current Halal EV lineup
Xiaomi YU7 Max — fully electric

Jetour G700 — plug-in hybrid
A seven-seat, body-on-frame SUV pairing a 2.0L turbo engine with electric drive for 904 hp and 1,135 Nm, quoted at 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. MHERO 817 MAX — electrified with a range extender
A five-seat off-road SUV with dual-motor 4WD and more than 700 hp. Its 31.7 kWh battery is quoted at 110 km of CLTC pure-electric claimed range, and a range extender takes the combined claimed range up to 1,300 km. - Charging at home: check what your building's electricity supply allows before choosing between fully electric and plug-in hybrid.
- Exact specification: equipment and figures can vary between markets and build batches. Confirm the exact unit, colour and trim you are buying.
- Price and availability: confirm the current price for the specific configuration and whether the car is in stock or must be sourced.
- Warranty and after-sales: ask exactly what is covered, for how long, and where servicing takes place.
